Douglas is a kind, warm-hearted man. He is a devout Christian. He has compassion in his heart, and I believe his plea of innocence. We have been friends for some time, and he is sincere in his plea. He is locked in his cell 23 hours a day, and has little contact with the outside world except infrequent visits from his wife, and letters I send him. He has a 2 year-old son. Douglas and I are trying to secure money to build a defence fund, and I write to you today to request any sort of financial assistance you may be able to give. Douglas has no means of accruing funds personally, has no savings, and receives limited legal defence from a pro-bono lawyer. His chance of properly appealing his conviction would be greatly improved should he have money to pay for a defence lawyer.
